UB Ranks Second for SUNY Medical School Enrollment

According to a SUNY news release based on information gathered from the Association of American Medical Colleges, the leading destination for in-state residents seeking medical degrees are the SUNY schools.  More in-state residents chose SUNY medical schools over more costly private school options.University at Buffalo’s medical school ranks second on the list, with 82.6% of its newly enrolled students coming from within New York. There were 118 new medical students that from New York, and 59 of of those students were from Western New York.

Why are so many NY students choosing UB?  The UB2020 plan calls for a $350 million medical school building to be built inside the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The dean of UB’s School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is quoted as saying, “As we embark on an historic move and expansion of our medical school, we will be further enhancing our commitment to New York state and to providing world-class health care to our community,” he also added ““One of the key reasons why our medical school is moving to downtown Buffalo is so that we can increase our class size from 140 students to 180 students, in order to address the increased demand for physicians in New York state.”
