Construction of the 137-room Hyatt Place hotel in Synder is expected to start by mid-May 2013 according to its developer.

The work will begin within the six weeks according to the Iskalo Development Corp. Executive Vice President, David Chiazza. This will help anchor the Lord Amherst Hotel campus his company envisioned when they acquired the property 2 years ago.

The Amherst Planning Board approved the project late Thursday night which green lighted the start of construction. On Friday morning, the Amherst Industrial Development Agency made the approval for an incentive package that was considered crucial for the advancement of the $20 million project. The project was approved by the planning board with a 5-2 count and the IDA directors signed off on the incentives by 4-3 vote.

There has been strong resistance to the Hyatt Place project sicne it was announced last year and that was evident during Friday’s two-hour IDA meeting. The town IDA’s sole focus was the financial incentives being sought by Iskalo. There were multiple planning and zoning issues which needed to be addressed before the Hyatt Place project got its approval.
